WHITE CITY OF AREQUIPA

HALF DAY CITY TOUR

The City Tour in Arequipa, the White City, will give us a chance to explore those well-preserved architectural jewels that the colonial historical downtown is so rich for. Among the monuments we will visit, the famous Monastery of Santa Catalina clearly stands out. This place is a truly 17th century city within the city itself with its houses, streets and spaces that have been intact since they were built centuries ago.

After picking you up at your hotel, our City Tour will start with the monument which may be the most emblematic in the whole city: the monastery of Santa Catalina. We will visit all the places here which are open to the public, admiring the colours and the atmosphere that haven't changed since the 17th century. One part of the monastery is still reserved for the nuns only and is not accesible for the public.
After this we will make our way to the heart of the city, the Plaza de Armas, to visit the church of Compañía de Jesús and the Metropolitan Cathedral. They represent two completely different architectural styles, the first built in Andean barroque the latter in neo renaissance and they both are the works of South Peruvian art. Leaving the main square behind we will go and visit two traditional villages: Yanahuara and Carmen Alto, both famous for the beautiful view over the historical downtown of Arequipa and the three majestic volcanoes that crown the city: the Misti volcano, the Chachani and the Pichu Pichu. Finally at the end of the City Tour our car will drop you at your hotel, a restaurant of your choice or if you prefer the main square of Arequipa.
